Roving News
2026 sees us embarking on our 11th year of music and song in and around Birmingham. February 14th will see many members of our crew embarking on a train to Gloucester for the day to take part in the Gloucester Folk Trail, a multi-venue folk festival in pubs and cultural venues across the city. Suggested trains 09:30 from New St and 20:56 return from Gloucester, other trains are available.
Roving Tuesday Folk Music Sessions Birmingham Background
We have been meeting together in and around Birmingham to play and sing folk music since June 2015 when we first hit The Wellington which has remained our ‘home’.
The “We” changes as people move around the city, country and world and we have had short, and long-stay, visitors from Latvia, Canada, Hong Kong, USA and Gloucester.
We are a laid-back group who define folk music as “if folk are performing it in the pub it's likely to be folk music"!
See the How Sessions Run Page for the mechanics of how evenings tend to roll.
For visitors who don’t play or sing, or don’t feel confident we offer the opportunity for them to suggest a song or tune and we will give it a go if we know it – no guarantees.
We do have some favorites which we will start to include on this site under Photos and Videos some of these are sung weekly and we make no apology for The Last Thing On My Mind, Sloop John B, Grace and Wagon Wheel. We tend to sing Haul Away Your Anchor as people start to disperse for their buses and trains.
